Nautical Ladder
San Carlos/Guaymas forms part of the Nautical Route, an important tourist infrastructure project, which without any doubt, will be the “gateway to the future” for this world class fishing and diving village.
In the case of San Carlos, it contemplates the expansion of its hotel and service infrastructure, the construction of a many luxury housing and condo projects, the construction of a new public beach resort, as well as the expansion of the lanes of the Hermosillo-Kino Bay Highway.
After the success attained by the National tourist Fund (Fonatur), in the development of tourist resort areas such as Cancun, Ixtapa and Huatulco, and after almost 19 years without building new important tourist destinations, the Mexican Federal Government together with Governments of the states of Baja California, Southern Baja California, Sonora, and Sinaloa, as well as different public and private organizations, defined the megaprojects of the Nautical Route of the Sea of Cortez and the Mayan Riviera, as the axes on which the country’s tourist development would hinge during the present administration. The agreement will be the economic trigger for Mexico’s Pacific-Northwestern area and will consolidate the Sea of Cortez as a world-class tourist destination.
Fonatur’s diagnosis reveals that, the marinas of the Western Coast of the United States, particularly those of California, are saturated or close to their saturation point, and they are insufficient to take care of the growing market. This unsatisfied demand can be taken care of in Mexico provided the conditions facilitating the entry and stay of the vessels are given the strategy consists in creating a system of nautical stops through the incorporation of the excising marinas that already provide all services in five ports: Ensenada, Baja California, Cabo San Lucas, Southern Baja California, La Paz, Guaymas-Bahia San Carlos, Sonora and Mazatlan, Sinaloa. The existing nautical facilities in seven ports: Puerto San Carlos, Southern Baja California, Puerto Loreto, Mulege, Santa Rosalia, San Filipe, Puerto Penasco and Topolobampo will be supplemented.
Twelve new nautical stops in sites with very good natural conditions for vessel anchoring will be built in Punta San Carlos, Santa Rosalita, Bahia de los Angeles, SanLuis Gonzaga, Bahia De Tortugas, Punta Abreojos, San Juanico, Huatabampo, Bahia Kino, Altata and Teacapan.
An average nautical stop will be developed on an area of approximately 12.0 has. 4.6 has of which are in the ocean and 7.4 has are on land. 2.4 has. Of which are portions of dried land that used to be ocean. Of the total area on land 1.8 has. Are for dry marina, 1.5 has. For the nautical terminal, streets and infrastructure and 4.1 has. For tourist housing units.
